Traditional LASIK was approved in 1999 for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the traditional LASIK procedure, Dr. Warren will create a flap in the outer layer of the cornea and then reshape the cornea using an excimer laser based on the patient’s glasses prescription.

iDesign was approved in 2018 for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The steps in the iDesign LASIK procedure and traditional LASIK are similar. The difference between traditional LASIK and iDesign LASIK is the information used to reshape the cornea. In addition to your glasses prescription, iDesign LASIK uses a special machine to read the “fingerprint” that is specific to your eye.

Here is an example to help clarify the difference. If your glasses are -1.00 and your friend also wears -1.00 glasses, traditional LASIK will treat both patients exactly the same way. With iDesign LASIK, an additional 1257 measurements are taken to create a “map” that is as specific to your eye as your fingerprint. The iDesign LASIK procedure then treats your individual “map” which is 25 times more precise than the method used to measure your glasses.

Dr. Warren has been performing traditional LASIK at Ophthalmology Associates since 2000 with fantastic results. We still offer traditional LASIK today. We are now proud to offer the iDesign LASIK procedure, as it is the newest generation laser vision correction available. It requires a little bit more time (out of contact lenses for 2 weeks) than traditional LASIK, but patients report “high-definition vision” that frequently surpasses the traditional LASIK goal of 20/20.

$1500 per eye if paying with cash/credit card.

If financing, our usual and customary fee is $1750 per eye.

LASIK Surgery consists of two main surgical steps: First, Dr. Warren will create a corneal flap. Then he will reshape your cornea to correct your vision. If PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is selected as a better laser vision correction option the flap creation step is omitted as the laser treatment is applied directly to the corneal surface.

Step 1 – Creating the LASIK Flap

LASIK surgery requires the creation of a flap. The flap will be created with a state of the art iFS 150 Intralase laser.

Step 2 – LASIK Treatment with Excimer Laser

Once the LASIK flap is created, the flap is then lifted and the excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea. You will stare at a blinking red fixation light while the laser sculpts the corneal tissue. The laser makes a clicking sound that can be heard during the procedure. After the excimer laser treatment, the flap is repositioned. Call our LASIK Coordinator, Cathy Abbott, COA, today for an appointment, 817-390-0099.
